I agree 100% with him, something that he for got to mention is that a 1911 (.45 ACP) is an advanced pistol to learn to shoot well, but he is right and people should listen.

all I can say is "Rock out with your Glock out".  I carry a glock as a duty gun, and I own 2 personal guns and they always work... always.  I have shot a bunch of 1911's.  Not a ton but probably 20, and it is seldom they don't have some kind of problem.

For a range gun, 1911's are fun and I enjoy shooting them.  But to carry one and trust my life with it... No fucking way.  In fact, as I write this, I have a 1911 in 38 super that won't cycle worth a shit and it will cost more than the guns worth to fix it.

    Nate -

you must have forgot the day at the range when your G-lock had the slide lock go tits up on you and lock your slide back every shot...

Glocks are a great medium priced firearm, no doubt.  The ergonomics on a Glock don't work the best for me, but they work for most people.  One of the great things about a 1911 is the ability to personalize many aspects of it, like the main spring housing.  I have taken guys to the range that shot their Glock in an average way, and when they shoot my 1911 their shot groups tightened up immediatly.  He makes good points about the older 1911's.  One thing most people don't realize is there are things in a gun that need replaced, like recoil springs, sears, and other small parts that take a beating.  I have only owned one 1911, that is made by Colt.  That is the other thing that makes a difference - manufacturer.  Only one company makes the G-lock.  There are hundreds of companies, of various quality, that make the 1911.

Another study to look at was done by Tacoma PD... they adopted the Kimber 1911 after a study was done comparing various pistols (including the Glock)  The Kimber won out, and when the failure rate of the Kimber 1911 was compared to ALL other guns issued in the department, the Kimber was found to be the most reliable.  That comparison inluded long guns, shotguns, revolvers... everything.

  • The article I read said the Tacoma PD adopted two Kimber models along with three Glock models as options for their officers.

That is true Luke,  my glock did malfunction on me... 1 time out of the i don't know how many thousands of rounds I've shot out of it.  Not bad results really.  Every 1911 I have shot with the exception of a few had to be tweeked to some degree to shoot right and most of those don't even shoot right.  I have shot a few Kimbers and they are awesome... they're also like $1000 plus.

Bottom line, If walked up to a table full of guns and had to choose 1 to carry without ever shooting them before.  It would be the Glock over any 1911, no matter what brand/make/model.  They always shoot reliably.

Collin,  how about $150 for that 38 super.  Its a Llama Supermax stainless steel.  Has a feeding problem, don't know what the F is wrong with it.  I have 2 mags for it.  And some ammo.  Let me know if your interested.  I would be interested in horse trades too, firearm related, not airsoft.
